Past and Future Approach to P.E Planning

Physical education is a part of curriculums all over the world. Their implementation aims to help students achieve holistic growth in terms of their physical, mental, and even emotional growth within the school structure. The traditional approach to pe planning involves some classic elements that are still popular in today’s schools.

Traditional Elements of a Physical Education Lesson

  • The warm up. This is an exercise in preparation for whatever physical activity the students will participate in. This section usually occurs over a five-minute period.
  • Stretching. This is another preparatory step before the start of the main P.E lesson. It helps the students’ muscles to relax before any exercises. Similar to the warm up, the stretching section can take up to five minutes,
  • Fitness component. This is where you identify the main parameter that is being monitored during this lesson. This could be speed or muscle strength.
  • Main fitness activity. This is where your students spend the most energy. The main activity could be individual or team games such as track and basketball respectively.
  • The cool down. This is a necessary step after any physical activity as it protects your body from soreness following an active session.
  • Future of Physical Education

    Most people assume that the same P.E class they attended in their childhood is the same form that is currently in use in schools. However, the reality is that P.E has evolved over the years to become a much more beneficial activity for children due to effective PE Planning.
